Travel Writing Portfolio

My curiosity about the world began at a young age when I dreamed of living out the adventures I read about in school. My mind wandered through the icy tundra of Jack London’s The Call of the Wild and swam in the tropical seas of Steinbeck’s The Pearl, but I spent even more time getting lost in the changing seasons on the hillside outside my window.

I took many writing classes throughout college, but my favorite was a creative nonfiction writing course with guest professor Don George at San Jose State University. He weaves captivating vignettes from all corners of the globe, and his book, The Way of Wanderlust, sparked my interest in travel writing. That same semester, I received the Folendorf Award for Creative Writing for my piece, “An Unexpected Piece in Portland.”

Since then, travel writing has become one of my favorite hobbies, whether I’m visiting a new country or simply trying a new restaurant.
